The Team

Scot Ferguson

Scot entered the contract office business in 1979 as an inside sales and marketing manager for an independent LA based Rep-firm and was quickly promoted to outside sales and marketing. His natural design abilities and attention to detail provided a strong base
for building solid relationships in the design community that resulted in an abundance of large specifications and subsequent orders.

In 1989 Scot moved to Northern California and initially worked for several rep firms specializing in high end design oriented furniture and products until establishing his own rep firm in 1990. In 1995 Scot left his firm behind to accept a position at Teknion as a District Manager. He achieved nationwide number one status selling high performance based products to large Silicon Valley companies at the height of Teknion’s success In the office systems marketplace.

Following the 2001 downturn, Scot followed a former manager to a San Francisco Knoll dealer to apply his direct selling capabilities at the retail level.

He was recruited and found his way back to the manufacturing side of the business working for a large manufacturer to upgrade and grow their dealer business with several developing dealers needing strong industry experience and direction. Sensing a change in client attitudes in a challenging business climate, Scot accepted a position at Office Depot as a National Account Manager to further develop his skills and extend his reach working for a fully resourced provider of office products and services. Through his connections developed at Office Depot Scot accepted a position at B3W until purchasing their Northern California division. It was renamed B3W/Norcal and continued its development into the industry leading firm known today as SpecHouse.

Scot is happily married to his wife of 18 years and business partner Jean. Together they are raising their daughter while managing their highly successful business. Scot’s oldest son Ian has recently joined the business. The family spends time together attending the kids sports events, sailing, and playing water-polo. Frequent outdoor outings help Jean and Scot stay well-grounded in the world around them.

Jean Ferguson

Jean is a contract furniture and products sales professional with experience in all segments of the contract office product sales and service. She earned her BA in Design and Marketing at the University of Northern Iowa. Following graduation she moved to Texas to begin her career at a local architectural firm. She was recruited by ARCO where she spent four years working for their Facilities Services Department. This culminated with a special team assignment coordinating a move of over 2500 employees into a newly constructed 1 million sq. ft. building over a period of one year.

Jean’s experience in corporate migration management, coupled with her skill at putting users at ease, lead her to sales positions with several developing manufacturers.

Through acquisition and promotion she landed a position at Westinghouse, followed by Teknion where she enjoyed great success managing territories in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Jean moved to Northern California in 1998 where she joined a large contract Teknion dealership to leverage her project management skills and Teknion knowledge. During her employment, Jean enrolled in and completed AutoCad and Data One/Design Express software training courses for transition into an independent consultative role with a number of different dealers. Ultimately she was again recruited by one of those dealers who desired her top end management experience for large client projects.

When the market began to contract in 2011, Jean took a a position at Office Depot BSD as a Furniture Account Manager, supporting and promoting furniture sales through Office Depot’s General Line sales team. During this career Jean was able to proliferate her ability to address consumer’s needs for work-flow optimization via furniture and software.

Hon Office Furniture quickly recognized these skills and absorbed Jean into their sales team to manage several of their hybrid supply/furniture dealers. She did this successfully until leaving to support and grow B3W/Norcal as it transitioned into SpecHouse.

Jean originally moved from Texas to marry and live with her husband Scot. Together they have enjoyed raising their children and growing their business.

She enjoys cooking, her dog, and supporting her daughter’s sports and scholastic activities. Jean and Scot love their home and enjoy the Northern California outdoor lifestyle with family and friends.

Ian Ferguson

Ian is a contract furniture and product sales representative at SpecHouse. Though he has a fresh perspective working in the furniture industry, he has been immersed in it his entire life and is now carrying on as a 3rd generation business developer. Ian was first exposed to contract salesmanship by his grandfather and later his father at industry events, showroom visits, product demonstrations, installations and repairs.

Ian attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City to study Civil Engineering. While there he became involved in the ski industry working as a Ski Tech and customer service representative at Deer Valley Ski Resort. Ian has participated in high level competitive sports including hockey at the “U” while there.

In 2010 Ian moved back to the Bay Area and continued to work in the ski industry at California Ski Company while continuing his engineering studies at a local college.

While working at the ski shop, Ian was recruited to work for Hart Skis in Washington State. He managed the production line and quality controlled all products shipped. Through this position Ian gained experience in materials property technologies and how they can be combined to produce superior products when blended effectively. After moving back to California with the knowledge he gained, he took a job managing production at Boone Skis. Ian leveraged his ski building experience to create sustainable produced skis built using materials sourced for high-end competitive use by a select group of professional skiers.

One day a week, Ian attends a traditional wooden boat building school. This class has taught him to appreciate traditional craftsman methodologies utilized to create unique racing boats and yachts. This knowledge has reinforced his understanding of construction techniques utilized in office material products that efficiently aid business through both functionality and aesthetic design.

Before Ian started working at SpecHouse, he worked at West Marine boating supply as an assistant manager. He combined his sailing knowledge with his crafty ingenuity to help customers fix their boats or complete customized projects. During his time there he earned numerous customer service accolades.
